Weekend Update

Prepwork on Tyrion and Judge Death is officially done: both pieces are now in the priming queue. Given that it is month end, I probably will not get them on the painting bench til the weekend. I should be able to start breaking out the paints by next week. . .

It should be noted that Death's "groundwork" is still very much a work in progress, much like Dredd's base was earlier in the year. Unlike Dredd's, however, the completion of Death's base is not slated to coincide with the commencement of the painting of the figure.

Tyrion -- Prepwork: FINE

It's now all about the fine details and the pre-prime assessment that will brook no compromise... 

I still have to finish and detail the buckles; and the hair still awaits final texturing. Both aspects will hopefully be accomplished before eod.

Updates will be made in this posting. . . 

1700 -- Buckles and straps all-but-done: all that remain are the prongs and final clean-up. The face is finally done: any additional work would serve little purpose and it's best to leave well- enough alone. 

1848 -- Final finishing is underway. Final glazing coat to pedestal has been applied. Prongs have been sculpted and awaiting final clean-up. Hair texturing is underway in earnest.

Tyrion -- Prepwork - Home Stretch

With everything fitted and [mostly] polished, I am now well into final finishing. . .

The buckles on the straps have been roughed-in and sized: these should hopefully be done within the week.

The face is essentially done. There are still a few tweaks to be done, and the hair to texture, but otherwise. . . 

I am hoping to have this piece primed and on the paint bench by the end of the Memorial Day holiday.

Tyrion -- Prepwork 3

Prepping the Imp continues, though hardly at the pace I would prefer. Work has been incessantly brutal, and unfortunately there is no reprieve in sight. 

On the plus side, glazing has begun: the surface finishing stage of the prepwork has begun in earnest. And while the pauldron is all-but-done, the pauldron strap (roughed-in the other night in MS)--and the double cuirass straps (I am resculpting the buckles to accommodate the pauldron strap)!--are just underway.

The face/likeness, on the other hand, is about 70% 80-85% 90+% done. If I had < 2 solid days to work on it, I would say it would be a fait accompli!  

All in all, while I am disappointed with the amount of progress being made, I am certainly not disappointed with the quality of the progress that has been made to-date!

Tyrion -- Prepwork 2

The pauldron has been fitted and is now all-but-done. All that remains are some fine detailing, and some minor tweaks here and there. 

The integral plinth has been roughed-in with MS. I imagine there will be 2-3 more sessions before it can be considered done.

Tyrion -- Prepwork 1

Perhaps not surprisingly, extremely little. I have been working this bust as a filler project, and it is well on its way to be ready for priming. 

Most of the work has been on the separate lion-head pauldron. It was cast in a two-piece mold, with the parting line being the seam between the brass trim and the shoulder piece of the paul- dron. While the indicated call insofar as casting and engineering is concerned, the fine seam is all but obliterated in the casting. So most of my time has been spent recreating the contour and detail of the upper plate.

I am also tweaking the facial features and reworking the mantle more to my liking; but this is a relatively minor undertaking. Once the pauldron is done, all that will remain to be done is model- ling a plinth to support the bust.

The Imp

At last year's Atlanta Show, I purchased a Castle Miniature 150mm bust titled "Le Petit Héros"-- which also happens to be the title of a coming-of-age novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Those familiar with the episode which I believe the sculpture is based on (see below) will knowingly applaud Yury Serebryakov's choice of title for this piece.

The bust depicts Tyrion Lannister as portrayed by Peter Dinklage in HBO's Game of Thrones. The piece is based on his appearance at the Battle of the Green Fork in "Baelor" (S1ep9)--the only time, if memory serves, that Tyrion wore one of the lion-head pauldrons that are associated with the House Lannister warrior nobility. That being said, the sculptor exercised a degree of artistic license with the inclusion of an off-the-[right] shoulder fur mantle, which in no way de- tracts from this excellent offering.

The component castings are exceptional in every way: the 3-piece bust is cast in a 'Silly Putty pink-brown' resin that is a dream to work(!), though somewhat harder than most. It should be noted that no means of display support, whether plinth or rod, is provided.

If you are a fan of HBO's Game of Thrones, this is a must have! You will not be disappointed!!
