Thought I'd share a close-up of The Mummy with its new [resin] head. . .
The head has yet to be permanently attached. The green arrow on the right points to the edge of the ground-in panel (still very much a work in progress) that will eventually serve as the marquee for the hieroglyphs.
Back to the grind. . .

PS--By way of follow-up, the neck join has now been filled and finished, and the replacement head snaps on/off as if it were part of the original design.
Augie,
ReplyDeleteSWEET!!!!.... He's looking really good. i can't wait to see this one painted. The details ie. hieroglyphics, different colors of the painted sarcophagus, etc. is going to look fantastic.
Keep it up.
Lloyd
What's really frightening is that this is the easy part! 8-S But I'm slowly psyching myself up for the coffin lid, and all that it will entail. There have been some pretty impressive--and imaginative!--build-ups throughout the modelling forums and these have given me much to think about. . .
ReplyDeleteBack at it!
Been watching this and the new head looks great, you really have breathed new life into the mummy. Hardy
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, welcome aboard, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comment. I am VERY pleased with the outcome. It was an enlightening exercise as I never quite understood why the overwhelming majority of the scale Karloff-as-Imhotep likenesses done to date have been so off the mark. So in addition to now-having a decent replacement head for my project, I also learned a few valuable lessons. A very productive outing!
Thanks again for your comment. . . hopefully but the first of many. BTW, I'd love to see what you could do with the bandages on this kit!
Best,
Augie
Great job Augie! Nice to see your working so hard on this and am looking forward to your ongoing efforts.
ReplyDeleteHey guy!
ReplyDeleteA belated welcome aboard!
First of all, THANKS! You know me. . . I'm not going to do a figure just for the sake of doing it. I don't know what happened in the course of pre-production, but I have heard that the end-product is but a pale shadow of the master sculpt. Considering the medium, the strings being pulled by licensors, etc. etc. etc., it's a wonder anything comes even close. The forthcoming follow-up kit of the Frankenstein Monster is another unfortunate example, and one that will not grace these pages.
That being said, it's been a lot of fun so far. Still have the hands, the femoral extension, and all the loose ends of the wrappings to rework and/or finish on the figure, and then its on to finish the coffin before I can begin to even think about paint. Maybe by Halloween. . .
Thanks again!
Augie
