Where did September go?

A brief catch-up posting that will hopefully mark a turn for a semblance of normalcy, if not the better all around.

September was pretty much a write-off. Between the historic floods that slammed the metro Atlanta area and attendant home repairs; being laid-up with the "Flu from Hell" (no, I did not get a flu shot; nor was there enough time to get any of the post-exposure anti-virals-- no regrets on either count!), something that I am still working my way through; AND dealing with Q3 end at work, the ninth month was effectively deep-sixed!

Which brings us to the beginning of the last quarter of 2009. Traditionally this is a relatively unproductive period due to holidays and work. Hopefully, I'll be able to make this year an exception and get things off the workbench and on to the painting table by the Christmas holidays.

In the meantime, however, there remains MUCH to be done. . . hope you'll drop by often to check on the progress.

Best regards,

Augie

  1. Hi Augie,

Unlucky September, indeed. Hope you recovered well and your home did get much damage. As if one had enough time to waste, Nature too turns out badly ...

  2. Ciao, Mauro.

Thank you for your well-wishes. I believe I am just about over this God-forsaken flu, but it will be another week or two before I can claim a full recovery.

We are in the midst of another torrential streak of rain, with the worst expected tonight; but if we can get through the night, we should be OK. I've been very tempted to start building an ark. . . and I did clean my SCUBA gear for the first time in years! ;-)

Hope you and yours are well. Any project luring you to the bench? Una domanda: Aosta. . . che gli e successo quest'anno?

    Un gran ciao,

    Augie

  3. Well, an ark kit could be an idea to attract more people to the modelling hobby ...

    Aosta ...
I had a talk on this subject at September with Ugo Pozzati, a Milanese friend and painter who has participated to every edition with his club. Ugo told me that during the summer the town council of Saint Vincent retired unexpectedly its sponsorship to the exhibition, with much dismay (to say the least) of the organizers who found themselves at loss of spaces and facilities all of a sudden.

Quickly, they found another logistic arrangement at Bra (true name!) near Cuneo in Piedmont. "Au Petit Soldat" is the name of the show, in continuity with its tradition. The logo changed from a lion to a phoenix, very tellingly: http://www.aupetitsoldat.com.

It's been years I am not going to the show but it was good to know it was there. Now, let's hope this new arrangement could get the same level of success.

    Ciao

  4. Ciao, amico mio.

The gods have smiled upon us and while we are not quite in the clear yet, most of the heavy rains have skirted us, thus averting a potential major disaster.

Tante grazie per la risposta comprensiva! It was quite a surprise (read: shock!) when I read of the withdrawal of sponsorship by the local administrative body, and subsequent relocation: St. Vincent and the Val d'Aosta will always hold a special place in my heart.

Be that as it may, as yourself, I wish this new incarnation all the very best and at the very least the same level of success. May it exceed that in their very first outing! Auguri!

    Un gran ciao,

    Augie
